The "Double Under"....If you've ever seen Rocky IV, the training session in the barn, then you know what I'm talking about, great movie. Check out the video below. Jumping rope will enhance your performance no matter what sport you are participating in.
- Great warm-up
- Increased endurance
- Coordination
- Agility
Wikipedia defines the double under as such: The participant jumps higher than usual while swinging the rope twice under his feet.
Jumping rope is a great way to enhance your cardio and endurance. The double under involves skill and is more challenging but once you get down the movement you wont forget it. This is one of my favorite exercises, you can literary push yourself to the extreme. Furthermore, most CrossFit gyms will provide you with a rope but they aren't the greatest. I'd recommend getting your own rope, not only will it make your workouts more efficient but you won't have to adjust it before each workout. If you already have the movement down you'll be able to make anything work but I'd still invest in a new rope sooner then later to increase your performance.
*Tip: When you are working on the double under don't concentrate so much on jumping higher but focus more on keeping your elbows close to your body and using your wrists to whip the rope through. You will definitely feel this in your arms as well as get a great cardio workout. It's a great use of your fast twitch muscles.
You will definitely see the double under in some of your WODs. Good Luck.
If you need a new rope check the link below:
*Take your height and add 3 feet to it and that will be your jump rope length. It's easier to jump rope with a rope that is longer rather than shorter
